Turn your spare time into earnings with the new Driver app — built in partnership with drivers, to bring you the tools you.

Mastering efficiency is key to maximizing rideshare profits.

Rideshare drives often lose efficiency in two main areas: time management and money management.

Unfortunately, improving time and money management while ridesharing can be challenging. Especially if a driver has fallen into a routine that is easy to maintain and hard to change.

Fortunately, there are apps for Uber and Lyft drivers designed to help drivers master the management side of the business. And don’t worry, most of these apps are available on Android and iPhone ios.

Learn how you can achieve this goal and maximize your efficiency with these 21 essential apps for Uber drivers.

Navigation Apps for Uber Drivers

The number one way a rideshare driver can maximize their time behind the wheel is with proper navigation.

The best way to do so is to memorize every street and the fastest routes (in addition to being up-to-date with all construction and road closures).

The more practical approach is to have a good navigation app. The right navigation app can help drivers avoid traffic jams, construction, and other obstacles that can slow you down.

Quick note: If there is no traffic and you know where you’re going, turn off your navigation apps to preserve your phone’s battery life.

Waze

Waze (Free)

Known as “the world’s largest community-based traffic and navigation app”, Waze is a free app designed to make drivers happy. The app is comprised of real-time and up-to-the-minute road conditions sourced from people on the road. Fellow drivers maintain the app by reporting useful data such as where accidents, police, and road hazards are. Plus, Waze is always adding new features that could help you reach your weekly earning goals.

Another useful tidbit includes where to get the cheapest gas around town, which can save you a handsome sum each week on its own. Needless to say, these perks combined with the low, low price of free make Waze an ideal navigation app.

Google Maps (Free)

If Waze isn’t your ideal app, there is a more traditional GPS map you can use. Google Maps is always reliable and readily available to use on most smartphones. This app can show you a variety of routes to take and let you decide which one is the best based on estimated time of arrival.

Unfortunately, without a community actively backing the app, road and traffic updates are a bit on the slow side compared to Waze.

Mileage Tracking Apps

Keeping track of the distance you travel goes beyond the factor of how much Uber is paying you for each mile covered. Every mile you drive racks up an additional multiplier in the background from the United States government.

To benefit from this per mile pay, drivers must record distance traveled throughout the year. On average, a deduction of $0.54 per mile can be included when filing.

Many drivers have reported receiving a healthy tax return using the per mile deduction. It is easy to see why a mileage tracking app is a must-have. Here are a few to get you started.

Stride Tax (Free)

As you head toward your first ride request location be sure to have Stride Tax on and running in the background. This app tracks the mileage and actually shows you how much money you’ll via the tax deduction.

Drivers can also take photos of their work-related expenses and Stride Tax will update the total amount spent for you. Stride Tax is also capable of finding new tax deductions for you as well, which is a pretty nice bonus.

Once the year is over, app users can actually get an IRS summary of total expenses and miles for drivers, making it really easy to file an accurate return.

Hurdlr (Free for Basic, $7.99/month for premium)

Designed for self-employed individuals, Hurdlr offers similar functionality as Stride Tax. Drivers can use Hurdlr to record their mileage and expenses to get real-time estimates of their tax deduction. Bear in mind, Hurdlr comes with a lot of other items that are more geared towards individuals outside of the rideshare industry.

Additional services include bank account monitoring, invoicing and other extra features. This can bloat the app making it not ideal for everyone.

MileIQ (Free for 40 drives per month, $5.99/month for premium)

MileIQ is another mileage tracking app. One of the defining differences is that MileIQ offers users a weekly generated report. These detailed descriptions are customizable and may be organized in any way users see fit.

Triplog (Free)

We have been receiving a few reports from drivers saying they use Triplog to track their mileage and we wanted to pass the details along.

Apparently, the interface is not as clean as some of the other alternatives we have mentioned so far. Despite this, many drivers have reported that the app works flawlessly.

Triplog gives drivers a plethora of options on how to start mileage tracking, including plugging your phone into the car power outlet.

Finance Apps for Uber Drivers

Rideshare drivers are essentially self-employed freelancers. Which means all expenses should be tracked just like any other business. Practicing this policy throughout the year is a fantastic way to maximize your tax deductions and avoid an IRS audit when tax time comes.

To make the expense tracking a bit easier, try out any of the following apps.

Wave

QuickBooks Self-Employed ($10/month)

When it comes to accounting software, QuickBooks is the go-to option for businesses around the world. The software has become so popular there is even a slimmed down version dubbed QuickBooks Self-Employed. This lighter version of Quickbooks is designed for mobile users filing as self-employed.

There is a monthly subscription fee, so keep reading for our suggestion for a free Quickbooks alternative.

Wave (Free)

For drivers who prefer to spend as little excess money as possible, Wave is an ideal alternative to QuickBooks. Wave, a free finance app, offers users a way to track business expenses via their bank account and receipt imaging. They provide other services as well, such as invoicing and payroll, but users are free to use the software without restrictions or limits.

Music

Providing excellent customer service for your passengers increases the odds of receiving tips. One of the easiest ways to make the inside of your cabin a comfortable, tip worthy environment is by playing good music.

Fabulous tunes can aid a passenger with developing a positive, upbeat mood that can scare away any feelings of annoyance due to traffic.

Plus, bands, songs, and concert stories are a great way to strike up a conversation. Trading stories or music passions in this manner with passengers can potentially transform a would be 3-star rating to a 5-star rating.

Be sure to buy a long enough cord that can reach the backseat and equip your ride with any of the following apps.

Spotify

Spotify (Free, $9.99/month for premium)

When it comes to streaming music, Spotify is king. Users can create their own playlist, find new tunes based on past music preferences, and listen to brand new tracks as soon as they’re released. They even have pre-generated song collections designed to compliment you or your passenger’s current mood.

As for drivers that are strapped for data every month, you may be interested in Spotify’s offline mode (premium only). Users can download customized playlists directly to their phone and play the content offline. By doing this, drivers are able to reduce the amount of data their smartphone uses each month.

Pandora (Free with ads, $3.99/month without ads)

One of the beautiful things about traditional radio is being able to simply turn it on and listen to music without having to fiddle with it. Unless, of course, a commercial comes on and you need to change the channel. Pandora successfully delivers this type of experience, but with more variety.

Users can select favorite songs or simply put in a song name to get Pandora to serve up groovy tunes that match the beat of your preferred drum. Interested parties can use Pandora for free with ads mixed in or go ad-free by paying $3.99 a month.

Soundcloud (Free with ads, $9.99/month for premium)

For underground music that hasn’t become mainstream enough to hit Spotify yet, check out Soundcloud. This music playground is where artists go to show off what they are made of. Soundcloud is also a popular place for artists to host live sets. Live sets are a great way to listen to an hour or more of music without interruption.

Equip your rideshare business with Soundcloud for free with ads or download Soundcloud GO to play music ad-free for $9.99 a month.

Gas Apps for Uber Drivers

With gas being so expensive these days it is easy to see why the golden liquid has become a central concern for drivers everywhere. It is without a doubt the biggest expense for in the business of rideshare. Fortunately, there are ways for drivers to grab a few gallons at the lowest price available in their city.

This budget management skill can even be used without having to travel all over town comparing gas prices.

Gas Buddy (Free)

Like Waze, Gas Buddy is another crowd-sourced information app. Gas prices from gas stations, groceries, and supercenters are frequently uploaded to the Gas Buddy database by users. From there, the app figures out which locations are offering the lowest price per gallon for any fuel type. Users can easily find the cheapest gas prices near them, making the app an essential for rideshare drivers.

Weather Apps

Tracking bad weather is a great way to boost your rideshare earnings. More often than not, when the weather is bad, people do not want to go for a leisurely stroll or ride their bike. Instead, they opt to request a ride. For drivers, this can be very lucrative, especially during Surge time.

Weather Underground

Weather Underground (Free)

Weather Underground has a beautiful interface that is easy to navigate. Users can get up-to-date weather information or plan out the next week and a half with the fabulous 10-day forecast view.

Accuweather (Free)

Another very popular weather app is Accuweather. Users can check allergen levels, temperature, and any other metric you can think of. We’ve read reviews that Accuweather offers one of the best extended forecasts in the meteorology.

Roadside Assistance Apps

If you drive full-time, you are eventually going to hit a bump in the road. The following roadside assistance apps make handling these ordeals a bit less stressful when they do occur.

Honk (Free)

Honk offers drivers 24/7 roadside assistance. Members can expect help within 15-30 minutes to assist with common road issues, such as a flat tire. In the event that something a bit more drastic is required, Honk provides towing services as well.

There are no membership fees, however, there are packages available starting at $49.

Urgently (Free)

Dubbed the “Uber of roadside assistance,”Urgently provides drivers with useful services, such as lock-out assistance and fuel assistance.

The app is free to download and offers flat-rate, upfront pricing with no membership requirement or annual charges.

Airport Schedules

Airports can mean big money for rideshare drivers. Major travel hubs provide a virtually endless supply of fares, if you’re there at the right times.

Flightstats

Flightstats (Free)

To make sure you are at the airport when a plane lands, use an app such as Flightstats to check on flights. We suggest checking the app when the weather is bad, because it makes no sense to head towards an airport when no flights are coming and going.

This app provides real-time updates on all incoming and departing flights.

FlightView (Free)

A great alternative to consider is FlightView. This provides weather delay updates, flight tracking, and parking availability. The parking availability alone can help drivers find a prime location to eat lunch while waiting for passengers to depart.

Rideshare Passenger Apps

Checking the rider version of your rideshare app of choice is an often underlooked method to seeing the best places to drive.

Uber & Lyft Passenger App (Free)

The Uber Driver app is not the only rideshare app you need. Having the Uber passenger app is absolutely essential.

Want to see if there are a lot of other Uber drivers in your area? Pop open the Uber app or Lyft App and look at the home screen to quickly see where cars are around you. If you find yourself in a sea of other drivers competing for pickups, try heading to another part of where there are fewer drivers.

Rideshare Driver Focused Apps

It’s no surprise that developers have noticed the market for rideshare driver-focused apps. Here are a few applications developed with you in mind.

SherpaShare ($5.99/month)

Dubbed the “Ultimate Rideshare Driver Assistant”, SherpaShare serves many of the functions mentioned on this list. Features include:

  • Driver to driver chat
  • Mileage tracking
  • Expense tracking

Mystro (Pricing varies)

Mystro

Drivers that swing between Uber and Lyft every day may find Mystro pretty useful. This Android-only app focuses on helping drivers operate multiple rideshare companies at the same time. This is intended to help drivers make the most money per hour by always having a passenger queued up in the area.

Most drivers claim they make about 30% more money using this automated software, however, Mystro is not free. Pricing packages are listed below.

  • Annually – $99.95 per year
  • Monthly – $11.95 per month
  • Per Use – $.20 per ride

Saving money on gas, tracking expenses, recording mileage, and optimizing passenger pickup will help increase your weekly paycheck.

We hope these apps help you stay safe and maximize your rideshare earnings (all while listening to some good tunes).

The Uber driver app has come a long way over the years. What used to only be an app to accept ride requests is now a massive portal that allows Uber drivers to do just about everything they would need to manage their account and get help from Uber.

The driver app is an impressively comprehensive tool with tons of features, but it isn’t very well organized. Some essential things you need to do — like submit a simple question to an Uber rep or report an accident — are typically buried behind menus, links, and chains of help articles.

Uber completely overhauled the driver app in 2018, and I dug through all the changes and catalogued every major feature that I found inside. I left out the core features that you use while you’re giving a ride. As the app changes, I’ll revise this page. If you find anything that I’ve missed, leave a comment below!

How to download the Uber Driver app

You can download the Uber driver app in the Apple App Store or in the Google Play Store. You can also find a download link by searching for ‘download’ at help.uber.com. The requirements to run the driver app on your phone are:

  • Iphone: 4s or newer running iOs 9 or higher.
  • Android: Running Android 4.0 or higher and the phone must be from 2013 or newer.

Uber Driver App Home Screen

Go Online button

Tap the large button labeled ‘Go’ on the app home screen to go online. Being online enables you to begin receiving trip requests. If you don’t have notifications enabled for the driver app, you’ll get a popup that tells you to enable notifications. If your account is deactivated for any reason, you’ll get an error message when you try to toggle this switch. If that happens, you’ll need to submit a question in the help center to figure out why your account is deactivated.

Map with surge areas

This map shows where you are and where current surge areas are. It doesn’t show where other drivers are, and it’s a good strategy to avoid big clusters of other drivers. To see where other drivers are, download the Uber passenger app and sign in. You’ll be able to see around 10 of the nearest drivers.

Destination filter

If you want your ride requests to head toward a specific location, you can enable the Destination Filter twice per day. It’s useful if you want to get paid rides when you’re commuting in and out of a city, or if you want to paid rides heading toward a busy area, such as an airport.

To enable the Destination Filter, tap on the magnifying glass icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Fresh 1994 movie download torrent. Then enter a destination address and tap Set Destination. You can only use this feature twice each day.

The Trip Planner

The bottom of the home screen contains a tab that launches the Trip Planner. In the Trip Planner, you can:

  • See upcoming promotions
  • See your driving time, the number of hours you’ve been in driver mode
  • Set your Driving Preferences, which allows you to change the type of ride requests you can get. This is where you can enable or disable UberEATS delivery requests.

How to Access Earnings, Profile, Account, Help, and Notifications

Many of the features of the Uber Driver app can be located by tapping the image of your face in the upper right corner of the home screen. It’s an unlabeled button, which is not great for usability and hopefully will be changed in a future update. Tapping the image of your face opens a new screen that contains buttons for Earnings, Profile, Account, Help, and Nofications.

Notifications

The 2018 version of the Uber Driver app has a Notifications area located on the screen that appears after you tap your face on the home screen. Uber sends updates about features and promotions in the Notifications area. I have also gotten account updates in the Notifications area.

Earnings – See current and past earnings reports

The Uber driver app contains complete information about your earnings in the Earnings area of the app. The main features of the Earnings section is to display your current earnings for the week, recent transactions on your account, promotions you’re eligible for, and cashing out your earnings with Instant Pay.

Earnings Details – Shows daily earnings, time online, trips completed, earnings, and your expected daily deposit for the week

I’ve found that it only takes a few minutes for new earnings to show up in your daily report, but don’t expect everything to show up instantly. Some payouts, like payouts from hourly guarantee promotions, don’t get added to your account until the end of the week.

Trip history – On the Earnings Details page, scroll to find the “See Trips” buttons. This is where you’ll find a list of your recent trip history. See how much you’ve earned from each trip, how much commission Uber took, and how much surge pricing was applied to individual rides. This is the best place to report issues with individual rides.

To report an issue on an individual ride, find the ride and tap it, then scroll down to the “Help” button. You can report an issue with the fare amount, report your rider, let Uber know a rider left an item, or let Uber know that you were in an accident on that specific ride.

Recent Transactions – Each trip or referral reward is listed in this section as a separate transaction. Tap on the transaction to view details The top of this screen shows your balance for the week, and provides and Instant Pay “Cash Out” button.

Promotions – This area has announcements about upcoming promotions like hourly fare guarantees or one-time bonuses for driving during certain days and times. I’ve found that it’s not comprehensive, and sometimes it doesn’t list all active promotions. To stay aware of all active promotions, pay attention to emails from Uber and app messages.

Invite and earn – This section lists your driver referral link and driver promo code, which you can use to refer new drivers to the app. You may be eligible for a bonus if someone signs up with your code or link and completes the required number of rides.

This area also has two reports: Invite Status – Pending and Invite Status – Goal complete. Each is a report of your invites and where they are in the process. You can see whether they’ve signed up but not started driving yet, or that they’re signed up, driving, and on their way to earning a bonus.

Instant Pay: How to cash out your Uber earnings on demand

Most Uber drivers are eligible for Instant Pay, a feature that allows you to cash out your earnings whenever you want. The minimum amount you can cash out is $1, and the fee for each transfer is $0.50. To access instant pay, tap your profile picture on the app home screen, tape Earnings, then tap Cash Out. Follow the steps to set up Instant pay. Once it’s set up, you can cash out your earnings up to 5 times each day, and the transfers are close to instant.

Instant Pay requires a debit card. If you don’t have your own debit card of if you don’t want to use it, you can sign up for Uber Visa Debit Card, which is created and serviced by GoBank. Apply for the Uber Visa Debit card in Account > Perks, and find the Uber Visa Debit card area.

How to view past pay statements in the Uber Driver app

To view past statements in the driver app, go to the Earnings area, tap Earnings Details, then tap the arrows (< & >) to view the earnings details for a previous or next week.

I find it easier to find past pay statements at partners.uber.com, where previous dates right at the top of the report.

Profile – View your ratings & more

When you tap Profile, a screen is brought up that shows your profile details and your driver rating. This area contains two key features: Your profile, and your ratings.

To edit basic profile details, tap the pencil icon in the upper right corner. That will allow you to change your photo and add details about yourself. To change your name or view other important information like tax details, head to partners.uber.com. Not every setting can be viewed and changed in the driver app.

Your driver ratings – All Uber drivers must maintain a 4.6 star average rating to avoid being deactivated. The Profile area displays your current average star rating. Tap it to bring up more detail.

After you tap your ratings, the Ratings page display a graph showing your last 500 ratings. A graph shows the distribution of 1, 2,3, 4, and 5 star ratings. Feedback from riders who rated your less than 4 stars is also displayed on this page. When a passenger rates a driver less than 5 stars, Uber asks for a reason why.

Uber driver app download android for pc

Rider compliments and achievements – The profile page also lists compliments from riders and Achievements you have received.

Account – View vehicle and document info, change app settings, view perks, change app settings, and more

The Account area of the Uber driver app is where you can view and change settings related to your documents, your vehicle, your payment methods, your account settings, insurance, and driver perks.

Vehicles – The vehicle section of the Account area shows eligible vehicles on your profile. It also has an option to add a vehicle or view rental options. To edit vehicle details for an existing vehicles, visit partners.uber.com.

Documents – View and manage your driver documents in this area. Tap the document to upload an image of an update one. This area also lists expiration dates with color coded warnings. If you’re having viewing or updating your documents, try heading to partners.uber.com.

Payment – The Payment section allows you to view your active payout method, and set up instant pay. You can edit or delete your current payout method by tapping on it in the Payment area. I find that a better way to view and edit payout account information is at partners.uber.com.

Perks – Uber offers different perks to drivers, which are typically discounts on third-party services. This is also where the Uber Visa Debit card from GoBank is listed, which is a debit card that is compatible with Instant Pay.

The driver perk categories that Uber offers to drivers

  • Finance – QuickBooks, tax preparation software
  • Health – Stride Health, health insurance for the self-employed
  • Phone – Discounts on phone plans from major carriers like Spring, AT&T, Verizon
  • Car maintenance – Discounts at auto parts stores and discounts on services from national repair chains

The rewards available to you may be different, so check your app to see what’s available in your area.

Insurance – This is where you can view insurance info that you would need in the event of an accident. This area also shows insurance coverage for different scenarios. There are three sections: Liability Coverage, Contingent Physical Damage Coverage, and Driver Injury Protection.

The Liability Coverage section provides your Certificate of Insurance, displays other pertinent policy info, and shows liability coverage details. The Contingent Physical Damage Coverage section also provides a Certificate of Insurance and collision coverage details.

The Driver Injury Protection area leads you to an offer to get additional coverage for disability payments, medical expenses, and survivor benefits. The current code is $0.04 per mile.

App Settings – This area allows you to manage app settings, most importantly preferred navigation and sound settings.

The options in App Settings are:

  • Navigation – Select your preferred navigation experience: Use Uber’s in-app navigation, or select a third party app like Google Maps or Waze. You can also enable or disable the Uber navigation voice features.
  • Night Mode – Select whether or not you want the app to be in a darker Night Mode
  • Share Trip – A safety feature that allows you to share your location with a contact
  • Speed Limit – A safety feature that shows an in-app warning when you exceed speed limits
  • Sounds and Voice – Toggle accessibility feature like Screen flash for requests, Vibration for requests, or let riders know you are deaf or hard of hearing.

About – This displays the version of the app you’re using, and an Acknowledgements section that lists third party software libraries that the app uses.

Help – Contact Uber, read help articles

The Help section is where you can contact uber or find a help article from a big library that covers just about every issue you might face as a driver. Find the Help section by tapping your profile image on the home screen, then tap Help in the upper right corner.

The Help area is very comprehensive, but often the answer to your question will be buried in a section that you might not think to open. There is no search feature in the app, so the best way to quickly find an Uber help articles is to go to help.uber.com. An even better way to get help with your account is to visit an in-person office, known as a Greenlight Hub.

You’ll see these Help categories in the driver app

  • Trip Issues and Adjustments – Report issues with a trip, ask Uber to review or adjust a fare
  • Using the app – How-to articles about going online, receiving trip requests, navigation, picking up & dropping off
  • Delivering with Uber – More information about delivering for UberEATS
  • Account and Payment – Issues with signing on, updating documents or payment info, information about fares & promotions
  • Signing Up – Driver requirements, creating an account, downloading Uber
  • Feedback – An area to submit Feedback specifically about the driver app experience
  • More – Accessibility issues, general phone or app issues, safety issues, and more

The Support Center – View Messages and Call Us – AT the bottom of the Help area, the Support Center lists “view Messages” and “Call Us.” View Messages is a log of past messages from support. You can reply to support from View Messages.

“Call Us” is a button that calls Uber driver support if it’s available in your area.
