Winchester Model 94 Pre 1964 Serial Number 1105022 4 Nov 2012 Where Is The Serial Number Located 31 May 2010 Winchester Model 94 8 May 2010 Winchester Model 94 30 Wcf Pre-64 6 May 2010 More results from www.gunvaluesboard.com. Make sure the top line of your ad covers all the bases, '28 gauge' 'Winchester' 'Model 12' 'Field Grade'. All serious shoppers use the search function. Your Winchester Model 12 16 Gauge shotgun was manufactured in 1940 according to the serial number. Unfortunately there were 15 DIFFERENT Versions of the Model 12.

My father recently passed away, and he left some of our family's old shotguns. I'm looking to sell a couple of them. One of them is a Winchester Model 12 28 gauge shotgun. Serial number is 749352. 2 7/8 chamber MOD. I've attached some picture links below:

The gun seems to be in good shape. Thanks in advance!

Sorry for your loss. The pre-WW-II Model 12 Standard Grade in 28-gauge was not a big seller at the time and is hence a very covetted collector item now. The last time I saw a 28-gauge Model 12 Standard Grade sell it was in the $3500 range, but that was over a decade ago, so I wouldn't be surprised at $5000 or more now.

Mmmm my mother in law has a truly mint model 12 in 410. To bad it's promised to one of the grand kids. Those are really nice, I got to shoot hers once.

Wow! I had no idea it was worth that much. Where do you suggest I try and sell it? I have never tried to sell a gun in my life. Really at a loss here..

My suggestion would be that the classifieds on this site will expose it to a large number of very knowledgable potential buyers.
I would probably post it again in the Winchesters lovers forum after you have done some more looking on the internet for values. Good group there to give a good valuation.
It is a valuable gun.

Thank you! I also have the same model, but in 16 gauge. I assume that it's probably worth less? I will post to the Winchester lovers forum and see what they have to say.

An average 16-gauge Model 12 Standard Grade is about $350. It is the 28-gauges that are rare, and most 28-gauge Model 12s were Skeet Guns. The 28-gauge wasn't added to the Model 12 offerings until 1937, and it was dropped from the Standard Grade offerings by 1950. Probably the best place to sell a scarce and desireable gun like the 28-gauge Model 12 Standard Grade would be one of the auction houses such as Julias or RIA.

Interesting. What would be the disadvantage of selling it through gunbroker.com as opposed to Julias or RIA?

I think the gun would attract the same buyers on gunbroker as it would at the big auction houses and you wouldn't pay the enormous commissions that the auction houses charge. Don't bother to look on the internet for comparable items. There aren't any.

That was my thinking too. What do you think is a good asking price for this gun on gunbroker or the classifieds here? I don't want to get ripped off, but also don't want a price that may take months to sell.

Winchester never made the model 12 in 410. You must be thinking of a model 42.

I passed on a legit 90% original condition prewar field solid rib 28 gauge model 12 with a collector friend on this forum, two months ago at an auction which sold for $4200 OTD in Virginia. Prices have come down in recent times on model 12 28 gauge guns in all grades. There are/were two legit 28 gauge solid rib model 12 SKEET gun's on gunbroker that can be had in the $5-7k range and they remain unsold. This is a plain barrel gun and looks legit by the three photos in your link but a thorough inspection would be required to ensure its not a 28 built on a 16 or 20 gauge receiver. The photos don't give enough information to place a % of original finish remaining either. I see a $3000-3500 gun since it has no rib. Put it on gunbroker in a no reserve auction with a starting bid of $2500, plenty of good clear close up photos and let it run for 14 days and we will see what it's worth to someone. Good luck.

My fault. I did not notice this was a reply to a four year old thread by a new bee. I missed the year, i.e. it was December 19 2012 and he dug it up and posted on December 19 2016.
Hopefully the gun is long gone, since the market is very soft on 28's in 2016 unless its exceptional and 90% or better original configured.

Guest,

Winchester Model 12 Value

All Model 12's will have pretty much the same sort of wording stamped on the barrel. Only the choke and guage will differ. The serial numbers run sequentially and are not guage specific. Your gun was made in 1929.

And if you next question is 'I wonder what it is worth?' Read this first. http://www.gunvaluesboard.com/give-me-what-i-need-294224.html

Guest,

How did I know this was coming???? And not in the same post.

Trying to get an appx. value on a 1929 Winchester Model 12 16-gauge. You asked for the following:
Model Number: 12
Serial Number: 558767
Caliber: 16 gauge
Condition of the metal surface. great
How much bluing is present? all
Is it even? yes
Is it rusted? no
Has it been reblued? no
Condition of the wood. Chipped? Broken? Resanded? fine,no, no, no
I do have pictures just not your email. Thank you so much! RDT <email>

I do appreciate the details. Thanks so much.
I would say you are looking at a $700 shotgun.

If you are going to reply PLEASE USE the answer button not the new topic button. That way it all stays together.

Thanks
